Ice Cream of Doom

Tears over some strings.

Mood: inspired!

I was going through my officemate’s MP3 stash because I was looking for something familiar to listen to. I have long given up on people giving me something new and exciting to listen to. It’s either their taste is far different from mine or they listen to the same things everybody else is listening to nowadays. I have long given up on variety coming from other people. The industry is just too big yet too specific for us to share music and actually like it both.

So I was clicking away and I came across this folder with his name on it. As soon as I opened the folder I saw Eric Johnson’s Manhattan. And then I saw Joe Satriani. HOMAYGAD.

I listened to them in pure girly excitement. I was gushing! Really! My hands were typing nonstop because I was trying to get the work done but my eyes looked like they were stuck in Lala Land. I remember Satriani’s Always With Me, Always With You. That is the one song that got me into liking guitar solos like that. A guy I used to like gave that song to me when we were.. uhh… in a very complicated situation. He gave that song and asked me to listen to it.

I listened to it and after the first minute of the song, I started crying.

To be fair, I wasn’t crying, crying. Tears were just spilling and running down my cheeks. My chest and throat tightened but I wasn’t sobbing. No song has ever made tears roll down my face like that. Maybe it was timing. Maybe I was just genuinely sad and I was waiting for an opportunity to cry. Maybe it was coincidence. I don’t know. But it was the first time that music in its plain instrumental glory, made me cry. There were no lyrics to follow, no words that tell the story of a man hopelessly in-love but I cried nonetheless.

Heh… I’m sure a lot of people have cried over a song before. But a guitar solo? A violin solo? How about piano?
