Got to watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button today. And well no, I’m not going to write a comprehensive movie review. There are a whole lot of other people out there who can do a much better job of reviewing the movie than me. I’m also not going to give you a blow by blow account of what happened. What I’m going to give you are some of the best parts or things that I liked about the movie.
Now I don’t know why people complain that it’s “godawful long” Hmmm… nobody seemed to complain with Titanic but then again… okay, fine. So it is a little over 2 hours and a movie can get a little dragging if you stretch it like that. However, I don’t know if I should be proud or something but I actually enjoyed the whole of that 2 hour and a half movie. It was like reading a book. I remember sitting down to read Dreamcatcher by Stephen King and then finishing it after two hours. It’s kind of like that. The story progressed slowly but it didn’t bore me. Oh no, not one measly bit. I was having fun with Girlie while we explore the possibilities (and the wrongness) of the little girl and old man Benjamin Button under the table with the candlelight. I mean.. COME ON! The movie gives you this humongous room for your imagination to run around.
I loved the movie because it made me feel like I’m reading a book. There’s just so much to indulge in, so much to absorb. I remember being uncomfortable in my seat while watching Benjamin’s old body move around. Whatever it is that he’s going through, for some bizarre reason, I felt it too. That’s usually how I am when reading books but never when I watch movies. I’m usually pretty detached and watch things from a spectator’s POV when I watch movies but Benjamin made me feel what he’s feeling.
Also, it’s interesting to note the acting. It is after all, not an easy feat to express the physical limitations of an old man while having the mind of a 5-yr old.
I loved the movie for what it is and for what it showed me. The narration has a lot of wit thrown in it and some beautiful elements of timing – which I thoroughly enjoyed. There are, of course, a few gripes: the chemistry between Benjamin and Daisy is just sometimes too sugary to be believable, the ballet-seduction scene was just too tacky for me ionno and a few others that are too small and insignificant to mention.
I’d probably watch this again. On a cold, rainy day while I’m binging on all the junk food I can eat.
touch it?
