Ragnarok Online and I have this love-hate relationship. It has become a big part of me in the sense that it’s what made me appreciate MMORPGs in the first place. However, as my affair with RO goes on, I realize more and more how much money I’m wasting for this. The rate of leveling up is extremely and ridiculously slow for a pay-to-play game. People spend real cash on certain rare items. This got so ridiculous that things as big as cars are being traded.
Anyway, I won’t go much into details of burning cash for an online game. Bottom line is, I’m playing Ragnarok Online again after so many years of attempting to leave it behind. The boyfriend is a big RO boy so I know I’m in good hands. He knows his stuff.
I’ve written this in several About Me boxes already. In online games, I always play the support. I’m not that much into PVPs and the only reason I’ll actually enjoy a PVP setting would be if I get to play support and aid my teammates. I don’t want to go straight into the action and bash and cast every person I see. I’ve enjoyed playing support even though there are a couple of disadvantages of being the character who can heal, buff and tank.
One thing is the endless verbal abuse.
“Ate heal naman! wak bobo!”
“Magni pota!”
“Pa heal! Heal po. Heal. HEAL PO PLS”
“Amp bobo! marunong ka ba mag pari?”
….. aaaaand a whole lot more others that I’ve forgotten. When you’re support in any game dominated by Filipinos, you would find yourself in constant scrutiny. People seem to forget that yes, you play support. But you’re no god. Geez. How can you heal an archer with barely 500hp in a place where monsters deal around 300-400 damage? Having a priest around doesn’t mean you won’t die. That’s why we have the resu skill in the first place. It is expected that you CAN die and you probably will if you don’t know how to use your character.
Probably the best support experience I had happened with my boyfriend’s character. And heavens no it’s not because he’s my boyfriend. I was surprised to see how well he handled his character. He knows his weakness and his strengths and he doesn’t take for granted the numerous skills he can use to cover his weakness. The problem with other people is that they expect priests to fill every gaping hole they have, whether they’re lacking in HP, SP, attack speed, defense or critical rate. Priests can only enhance your capability, not completely make you invincible to attacks. The limit of OUR skill depends on YOUR capabilities. If you’re eons away from being able to carry yourself in that dungeon, the priest can’t assure you that you won’t die.
Okay enough rant. More gaming.
touch it?
