Back in dial-up days, I wasn’t spending so much time on the internet. I didn’t have mp3s and videos. The few things I use the PC for is MiRC (don’t judge me!) and Yahoo! (for homework) During those times even without the internet, I spend no less than 10 hours on the PC everyday.
You may ask, what IN THE WORLD could keep a 13-yr old girl so engrossed in the PC if not for the internet and games?
For this particular 13-yr old girl, it was writing.
I used to write Sweet Valley Twins-ish (again, don’t judge me!) stories back in grade school and carried it on through early high school. These weren’t fanfiction. I didn’t like the idea of using another person’s brainchild and control it for my own enjoyment. I was the type of kid to name all my dolls according to whim and never call my Barbies, “Barbie”. I was the type of kid who would talk to an imaginary person in the shower and pretend I was some kind of princess who came from this world to that fantasy world. I would even blurt out the dialogue and do some sort of doble kara in the shower.
I once had a folder in my PC full of stories. Shallow, sugary stories which would embarrass me right now if I show it to you. But I once had them. Somehow along the way of growing up, I stopped making stories and stopped imagining that I was a princess sent to another world to save it from a mystical war.
It’s the end of the year. People are going through some sort of self-assessment and are reviewing the decisions they made on 2008 in the hopes of doing things better next year.
As for me, there is probably only one thing I would want to do next year that I failed to do this year and quite a lot of years before this.
I want to be that princess again.
Demmit. I want to write again.
touch it?
