(I was going to make a speshul 100th post in my blog but because something happened yesterday, this takes precedence.)
When bad things come, they just keep on coming don’t they?
It was 3pm and I was on my way home from work. I got on a Pasig-Quiapo jeep. I had enough sleep the night before so I wasn’t feeling sleepy the least bit but traffic has gotten a little bad and I got bored. So I closed my eyes for a bit. My eyes jolted open because I heard “Sugar, We’re Going Down!” on the radio and thought that that’s a pretty old song to play on the radio, and it wasn’t even a Friday. (Magic 89.9 plays the oldies on Fridays) When my eyes popped open, I noticed a hand beside my bag and watched that same hand retreat back to its owner.
I dismissed it and figured it was just coincidence. That his hand just happened to be there. Yes, you can shoot me now for constantly seeing roses and butterflies when there’s shit on my face. I didn’t close my eyes anymore. I looked outside. Then that man and the man on my left stood up and got off the jeep. When they left I felt this huge pang in my chest.
I felt like I just had to look at my bag and true to my gut, I saw it slashed. My heart stopped and I reached inside the hole. I found my wallet. YES. Thank you God. It was a pretty big slash. I also saw marks of failed attempts in slashing my bag. Next thing I looked at was the other side of my bag. By this time I knew that the guys on both my sides are bag slashers. When I looked at the other side it was safe.
huhuhu… demmit.
Then I felt my knees go weak.
I just thanked God they didn’t use the knife to threaten me. That would’ve been a lot more difficult to get over.
This little experience reminded me how rotten some people can be. Whatever the reason is, your dying mom, your hungry kids… you don’t have any more right to steal just as much as the next person doesn’t have the right to steal from you. If you want to be protected by the law, respect it.
