At the moment: wants to take a shower
Don’t get me wrong. I love being a Filipino. I love our weather, I like it that we can wear tank tops and shorts and mini skirts (well.. can we really?) without jackets or coats. I love how we can have ice cream every single day because we have the license to say that “it’s hot!” every single day. I love how Filipinos suddenly turn into immediate brothers when the time of need arises (more of this in Wading through rat pee post) Doesn’t matter if we’re a bunch of people gone wild with democracy and elect actors for congress.. okay, that’s another story.
A bunch of my friends are going to have a “Uniform Photo Shoot” sometime next week and I plan on joining. Why would we waste our time shooting ourselves in uniforms? Well, because we won’t be using normal uniforms you silly..! we’d be using japanese-style uniforms!
I remember ever since I was a kid, or at least ever since I started liking anime, I wondered why uniforms in the Philippines differ so much from Jap style ones. I really wanted to wear short skirts and knee-high socks to school.. and even that cute little vest they wear on top of their blouses. But then again, schools here would freak out if your skirt is just a little bit higher or a little bit longer than the standard length. During my time, it’s 3 inches below the knee and anything more or less than that is a violation of the school uniform code.
Let’s take a look at this:

notice how our skirts look like granny skirts compared to the jap ones..
Ugh.
I have this really cute pink mini skirt with ruffles which I think would only look good with striped knee socks and sneakers. But of course, I can’t wear it like that or people would think I’m cosplaying or something. I’d be lucky if I wouldn’t get sneers and backbiting comments. Filipinos can be such.. meddlers sometimes. >.

I’m not saying I’d want to be outrageous and shock everyone with layers upon layers of mix-matched clothing. I just want the freedom to wear whatever I want. It’s freedom which I technically have but hindered by conservative Filipino society… and weather probably since we can’t exactly wear thick coats and multi-layered socks in this kind of weather.
Yeah… that’s it.
touch it?

yeah. you’re right. but we can’t help it that we’re in this society where some are just playing conservative, but really, they’re hypocrites.
anyway, why would you care about what they would say about you? it’s just how you carry it. just think of how people would look at you. just don’t forget to bring a stick and wack them in the head.

–Ditto!! I envy their style and everything and I’ve always wanted to wear their type of uniform because it makes me look younger and all.
I’ll update you about the photoshoot
Yey, I’m excited for that one. I’m living off my “childhood dream” for that day. Hehe.

I hate the Japanese!
They can look good in anything! ANYTHING!
Grrrr…
Hehehe… Have you watched Kamikaze Girls? Wala lang. If you haven’t, you should. Lots of cute clothes. Ah yes, and it’s Japanese.

Can Japs get anymore trendy? I mean, their fashion sense is like no other, which makes it looks special, even when it’s almost exaggerated at certain times. I like it though. Very distinctive. They own it, and we can’t help but emulate. Hehe.

i dont share your anguish, hehe, cos i obviously wont wear skirts to anywhere soon, unless i eventually go for traditional Irish as theme for my wedding, hehe..
i think shorter skirts are okay for a weather like our, especially on the hot days. but the thing is, i cant imagine what would happen during the rainy days.
isa pa lang ang nakita kong school uniform na pambabae na nagandahan talaga ako, it is ‘fabulous’ but still decent enough not to raise eyebrows in a society like ours — the UST Tourism uniform.
tama ba ako? ito yung kulay dark blue with green na scarf or something. and the embroidered logo was nice, hindi baduy.
=p

hahaha.
ayoko ng style ng japs… (well, girl thing kasi yan eh) para sa style ko – i prefer board shorts and aloha shirts. sounds like hawaiian…
tapos may surfboard. SIYET.

First and foremost, I love your template and I also agree that the Japs have cool uniforms. But there is a school in Cebu called Informatics and also the Centre for International Education which has the same uniform for girls and suit and tie for the guys.

ha! here i am again, the only guy with the different opinion. bwahaha!
i like simple clothing. morality has nothing to do with it, in case the thought might have occured to you. its a simple case of aesthetic preference. although i do respect people who want to err… dress differenly. ^__^
what i like about the japanese is their sense of responsibility. their firm grasp on the concept of discipline. their nationalism. in the old days, at least.
and i think their architecture and landscaping rocks. \m/

They’re lucky to have some fashion sense. You know what I mean… they are good-looking because of their fashion… and nothing else. Hahaha.
I’m still proud that we Filipinos are among the ‘most good-looking creatures in Asia’. I mean, you don’t have to look behind the bushes just to find one.
Look at me. Lol ^_^;;

There’s one college, apparently, which had “modern design” uniforms almost close enough to the Japanese cut: St. Benilde’s of Olongapo City.
On the other end of the spectrum, the closest thing to the conservative, one-piece Lillian (Maria-sama ga Miteru) sailor-type uniforms are the ones worn by the ladies at Holy Spirit Academy in Malolos.
Ah, well… one of these days the boring, standard-grade DepEd-compliant uniforms should be in dire need of a fashion overhaul, considering that some schools in Japan are hiring fashion designers to create neater ensembles for the students.
I’m not saying it’s free-for-all for the boys to hook up their mirrors to their shoes, but local school uniforms need to be refreshed visually and updated.

you are very right in what you say
why should it be that in australia or anywhere else as a matter of fact that we cannot wear what we want to wear without ebing labelled?
i mean i wouldnt mind doing something a little like the harajuku style, but , people would either
one, throw things at me
two, stare and make commments behind my back
three, thinks im a total weirdo
four, get called really ugly things
that why any country should be a little more accepting of new or perhaps even weird trends.
society is changing with time, get used to it.

I agree 100% Tobi-chan. It’s also not as if we’re causing harm by dressing in a certain way. If we go around naked and scare little children out of their wits then sure, they can condemn us but I don’t think other people should have a direct influence on what we should wear. If people can’t accept change or something different then no real progress can take place
